HCMC – HCMC has approved a partial adjustment to the master plan of the former Thu Duc City area to 2040, revising the alignment of Metro Line 7 to run through the new political and administrative center of HCMC in the Thu Thiem New Urban Area.
Under the decision issued by the HCMC People’s Committee, the section of Metro Line 7 connecting from Thu Thiem 4 Bridge will follow Bui Thien Ngo Street and run along To Huu Street, instead of Tran Bach Dang Street as previously planned, before merging into Tran Nao Street. Several station locations will be adjusted accordingly.
The realignment is aimed at ensuring direct access to the new political and administrative center planned for construction in the Thu Thiem New Urban Area. The center will cover 7.84 hectares, with its frontage along To Huu Street facing the central square.
Prior to the adjustment, Metro Line 7 was planned to run from Tan Kien Station through Nguyen Van Linh Parkway, the southern side of the Phong Phu Cooperative embankment road, Binh Hung Nam Residential Area, Dao Su Tich Street, Ton Dat Tien Street, Phu My Hung, Huynh Tan Phat Street, Tran Bach Dang Street, Tran Nao Street, Thao Dien, Thanh Da, Truong Tho, Trinh Cong Son (Rach Chiec), D2 Street in the Saigon Hi-Tech Park, and Vinhomes Grand Park.
Following the revision, Metro Line 7 will have a total length of about 51.23 kilometers, including 16.5 kilometers underground and 34.73 kilometers elevated. The line is planned to have 34 stations, comprising 12 underground and 22 elevated stations, and will use Tan Kien Depot and Long Truong Depot. The section passing through the Thu Thiem New Urban Area is expected to have six stations.
A consortium of investors has recently proposed the HCMC People’s Committee develop Metro Line 7 under a public-private partnership (PPP). The consortium committed to completing the investment proposal file in June 2026, contributing sufficient equity capital and mobilizing other lawful funding sources to implement the project in line with approvals.
The consortium estimated the total preparation and implementation period at around 42 months, including 26 months for construction.
In addition to Metro Line 7, Metro Line 2 (Ben Thanh–Thu Thiem) is also planned to run through the new political and administrative center.
The line will be nearly six kilometers long, entirely underground, with total estimated investment of around VND33 trillion. It will run along Ham Nghi Boulevard, cross the Saigon River, and continue along Mai Chi Tho Boulevard to Thu Thiem Station.
The route will include two underground stations—Dai Lo Vong Cung and Cung Thieu Nhi—adjacent to the site designated for the new political and administrative center.
