HCMC’s skies buzz with helicopter, fighter jet drills

HCMC – Dozens of fighter jets and helicopters continued their training flights over HCMC in preparation for the 50th anniversary of the liberation of south Vietnam and the reunification of the nation (April 30).
At around 9 a.m. this morning, March 28, Mi-8 and Mi-17 helicopters, Yak-130 training aircraft, and Su-30MK2 fighter jets take off from Dong Nai and fly over HCMC, with formations spaced 3-5 minutes apart – PHOTOS: LE VU-GIA NGHIThe aircraft depart from Bien Hoa Airport, flying in groups over key landmarks in HCMC, such as the Independence Palace, the Saigon River, and Bach Dang Wharf.This marks the squadron’s first drills over downtown HCMC following nearly a month of training in the southern region.During the drills, Su-30MK2 fighter jets and Yak-130 aircraft perform aerobatic moves like splits and loops, creating an impressive display over HCMC.Su-30MK2 fighter jets fly across the city skies. Produced by Russia, these multi-role fighters are part of Vietnam’s fleet, which includes 35 of them.A group of Mi-17 helicopters appears in the skies over HCMC.HCMC residents can watch the display from locations such as Bach Dang Wharf, the Landmark 81 area, Ba Son Bridge, and the Saigon Riverfront Park in Thu Duc City.
This event is part of a series of activities preparing for the military parade and procession celebrating the 50th anniversary of the liberation of south Vietnam and the reunification of the nation.
