HCMC – Vietnam’s Covid-19 cases have risen to 10,435 after the Ministry of Health confirmed 98 new cases, with 95 of them locally infected and three imported, this afternoon, June 13.
Thus, 194 Covid-19 cases have been confirmed today, with 190 of them locally infected.
Of the new domestic infections, 64 were detected in Bac Giang, 26 in HCMC, four in Bac Ninh and one in Hanoi.
The Ministry of Health this afternoon also announced that one more Covid-19 patient died, sending Vietnam’s Covid-19 deaths to 59.
The deceased was a 76-year-old man in Thuan Thanh District, Bac Ninh Province.
The patient died on June 12 of septic shock, multi-organ failure, severe pneumonia caused by Covid-19 and underlying illnesses of polyarthritis, gastrointestinal bleeding and duodenal ulcer.
On May 8, he started developing a high fever. Three days later, he was taken to the medical center of Thuan Thanh District and was diagnosed with pneumonia and was later sent to the Gia Binh Field Hospital.
On May 21, he vomited blood and was transferred to the Bac Ninh General Hospital and was diagnosed with gastrointestinal bleeding and pneumonia.
Two days later, he tested positive for Covid-19 and his respiratory conditions worsened, so he was moved to the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases on June 3.
He was old and emaciated and showed poor response to treatment.
At a meeting with Go Vap District this morning, HCMC Vice Chairman Duong Anh Duc said the district could gradually relax anti-pandemic measures after practicing social distancing for 14 days.
Duc said anti-virus measures in the district had reduced positive results, so areas under lockdown could be downsized, but high-risk areas must be still under tight control.
The city will decide if the district will continue social distancing at a meeting of the municipal steering committee for Covid-19 infection and control tomorrow. The city will remove unnecessary measures as the situation in Go Vap is not too different from other parts of the city.
Nguyen Huu Hung, deputy director of the municipal Department of Health, said from May 25 to 30, 47 Covid-19 cases were detected in Go Vap, but since the district began social distancing, 69 cases were reported over the past 13 days with half of them in quarantine centers.
Over the past few days, the district has had only two to three cases per day.
High-risk areas such as wards 3 and 15 have reported no locally-infected cases, Hung said, affirming that Go Vap had basically controlled the pandemic.
However, the district must be watchful, Hung required.
