HCMC – Northern provinces in Vietnam have been battered by heavy rains and tornadoes in recent days, leading to casualties and property damage, reported the Department of Dyke Management and Natural Disaster Prevention and Control.
The affected areas include Ha Giang, Lao Cai, Tuyen Quang, Yen Bai, Cao Bang, Bac Kan, Lang Son, Thai Nguyen, Son La, Phu Tho, and Quang Ninh provinces. Ha Giang Province reported one fatality due to a collapsed house and one injury, while Yen Bai, Son La, and Phu Tho reported three injuries.
The torrential rains damaged 6,891 houses and 53 school buildings in the affected localities. Furthermore, 1,556 hectares of rice fields, along with extensive areas of forestry and perennial trees, suffered damage. Livestock, poultry, and fish also perished due to the adverse weather conditions.
The tornadoes wreaked havoc on office buildings, factories, cultural houses, and power facilities in these provinces, exacerbating the impact of the natural disaster.
In response, local authorities conducted on-site visits to provide support to affected households. Relief forces were mobilized to assist residents in overcoming the aftermath of the disaster and swiftly stabilize their lives.
