For Herbalife Vietnam, the commitment to supporting the community is its DNA.
In line with Herbalife’s Global CSR Policy, Herbalife Vietnam is committed to doing more to provide life-changing opportunities, including supporting healthy communities, economic empowerment, and a thriving planet. Corporate social responsibility activities include providing good nutrition for children in need (Casa Herbalife Program), reducing the usage of single-use plastic items (Go Green Campaign), and organizing an annual blood donation campaign.
Numerous such good deeds have been conducted since the company set foot in the local market in 2009 as this health and wellness company believes that contributing to a healthier generation is deemed as a mission rather than merely an act of goodwill to the community, inclusive of the underprivileged, children and people in general.
From care for children…
In the middle of this year, Herbalife Vietnam renewed an agreement with seven local partners to implement the Casa Herbalife Vietnam Program for 2023-2024 to improve nutrition for 1,100 children at seven Casa centers in Vietnam. The signing ceremony marked 10 years of Herbalife Vietnam’s generous support for disadvantaged children under this special community program.
Under the Casa Herbalife Vietnam Program, the company provides financial support — worth more than VND17 billion to date — to improve nutritional conditions for children at the seven centers, one each in Binh Dinh, Hau Giang, Nghe An, Phu Tho, and HCMC, and two in Hanoi. Such an amount is used to prepare daily nutritional meals for the needy to ensure their physical development.
Vu Van Thang, General Manager for Herbalife Vietnam and Cambodia, told The Saigon Times: “We are happy as the Casa Herbalife Vietnam is further expanded in accordance with the long-term CSR program of Herbalife Vietnam and Herbalife Nutrition Foundation.”
In 2021, Herbalife Vietnam also introduced the Star Program to its Casa Herbalife Vietnam centers to help these children have better knowledge of healthy food and to build routines of regular exercise. Herbalife Vietnam’s Independent Members and Employees spent their time donating gifts and visiting children under the Casa Herbalife Vietnam Program.
Herbalife Vietnam has also attended to the problem of drowning among children due to the lack of swimming skills. The company has responded to a campaign launched by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to organize swimming courses for children by coordinating with the Vietnam Olympic Committee to run swimming courses in Cao Bang, Thanh Hoa, Can Tho and Daknong provinces.
The first course began in Cao Bang Province last August with the participation of 50 children, who were taught swimming skills and knowledge about drowning and preventive measures such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
…to environmental stewardship
As a CSR-minded nutrition company, Herbalife Vietnam inspires everyone to live in a clean, healthy and sustainable environment. Apart from embracing a healthier, more active lifestyle in order to live their best life, the company has managed to step up efforts to protect the environment, in line with the Herbalife’s strategy on environmental stewardship.
In 2020, the company introduced the Go Green program to minimize the discharge of plastic waste into the environment.
Specifically, the company replaced all carry bags for its products by non-woven multiple-use fabric bags, rejected single-use plastic items at the company as well as at the events it has organized, and called on members and partners to recycle plastic packaging. With these activities, the company has reduced 50 tons of plastic that should have otherwise been used.
The environmental protection effort by Herbalife Vietnam is part of Herbalife’s global drive to safeguard the environment.
Herbalife Nutrition has organized the Simply Recycle across the Asia-Pacific region as well, calling on its Independent Members to participate in recycling plastic canisters of Herbalife products.
Herbalife Vietnam’s Independent Members managed to recycle over 440,000 used product canisters, accounting for over 61% of the volume collected and recycled in APAC in 2022. In 2023, the total number of recycled product canisters is over 525,000 (70% of APAC).
In 2023, Herbalife Vietnam’s independent members and employees spent time on clean-up activities across the country, helping to pick up trash at Son Tra Beach and Mountain in Danang, Thong Nhat Park in Hanoi, and Cay Mai Park in HCMC.
Mr. Thang said that to encourage volunteerism, Herbalife offers 16 hours of paid time off each year for employees to do community work.
Towards sustainability
Apart from significant activities to support children and environmental protection, Herbalife Vietnam has organized various community activities.
Most recently, on August 4, 2023, the company in collaboration with the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion organized a blood drive at its office in Hanoi. A fortnight earlier, Herbalife Vietnam also organized a similar event at its head office in HCMC, on July 19. With hundreds of its employees, independent members and their relatives joining the blood drives, some 280 blood units were donated, which is of great significance at a time when the country is still grappling with a shortage of blood for patients.
Previously, the company’s associates joined a program that was in line with Herbalife’s Global Month of Purpose rolled out across the Asia Pacific region from April to June 2023. General Manager Vu Van Thang said the initiative received active participation from independent members and employees who spent 748 hours benefiting people in need and the environment.
Herbalife Vietnam is also a strong patron for the country’s sport teams and athletes. The company has signed an agreement with the Vietnam Football Federation to sponsor national men’s and women’s football teams, providing financial support as well as nutritional products for the 2021-2024 period. Herbalife Vietnam also cut deals to supply nutritional products to 110 outstanding athletes and 40 outstanding disabled athletes in 2021-2022.
Commenting on the sponsorship agreement, Vu Van Thang of Herbalife Vietnam said the agreement showed the strong commitment by Herbalife Vietnam to accompany Vietnam’s sports, and via sports to encourage a healthy lifestyle in the community.
From nutritional support for children to environmental protection and patronage for sports and athletes, to name but a few, Herbalife Vietnam has had its footprint in numerous spheres to support the community’s well-being.
As such, Herbalife Vietnam has won widespread recognition from various organizations for its sustainable development strategy. These include the AmCham CSR Award 2022 to honor companies with the best CSR practices, awards by VCCI in six consecutive years since 2017 for sustainable businesses, the Top 10 Most Reputable Food Companies recognized by Vietnam Report, and The Golden Product Award for Public Health for eight consecutive years for 17 of its products awarded by the Vietnam Association of Functional Food.
