HCMC – Revenue from consumer goods retail sales and services rose 9.9% to VND1.7 quadrillion in the first quarter of this year over a year earlier, driven by increased domestic consumption during holidays and a surge in international arrivals, official data showed.
Consumer goods retail sales and services in March were estimated to have increased 10.8% year-on-year and 1.7% versus the previous month, according to the General Statistics Office (GSO).
Retail sales of consumer goods reached VND1.3 quadrillion, accounting for nearly 77% of the total and up 8.8% from the first quarter of 2024. Food, educational items, clothing, and household goods recorded strong gains.
Revenue from accommodation and food services climbed 14% to VND200.1 trillion. Tourism-related services jumped 18.3% to VND21.5 trillion, supported by a recovery in both inbound and outbound travel.
The other goods and services category generated VND175 trillion, up 12.5% from the same period last year.
Hanoi, HCMC, Danang, and Quang Ninh posted solid revenue increases across retail, hospitality, and travel services. The GSO said stronger spending during the Lunar New Year and the early-year holidays, along with higher international visitor numbers, contributed to the growth.
