HCMC – At the start of the August 31-September 3 National Day holiday, HCMC has seen an upsurge of people traveling to their hometowns or vacation destinations, leading to heavy traffic congestion in the city’s eastern gateway area.
Today morning, vehicle traffic from HCMC to southeastern and central provinces increased sharply, causing severe traffic jams on major roads. Traffic police repeatedly opened and closed the HCMC-Long Thanh Expressway to manage the sudden spike in vehicle traffic.
According to the Tuoi Tre news site, by 8:30 a.m. on Vo Chi Cong Road, traffic congestion stretched about three kilometres, from the My Thuy roundabout to the Phu Huu roundabout, with vehicles crawling along.
By 9:20 a.m., a long line of container trucks, cargo trucks, and passenger cars caused a prolonged traffic jam towards the Cat Lai port and ferry terminal. Both directions on Vo Chi Cong Street near the My Thuy roundabout experienced similar congestion.
The situation was particularly challenging on Vo Chi Cong Street leading to the HCMC-Long Thanh-Dau Giay Expressway, where traffic was backed up for several kilometres.
As of 10:25 a.m., police took measures such as blocking the expressway at the intersection with Vo Chi Cong Street to divert vehicles towards the Hanoi Highway.
