HCMC – Hue City has asked the central Government for VND1.5 trillion to fund four resettlement and cemetery projects to facilitate site clearance for the North-South high-speed railway, local media reported.

Of the proposed amount, VND60 billion would reimburse the city budget for prior advance payments. The funding request follows a resolution passed by the city’s People’s Council on July 16, which approved using local budget advances to begin project preparations.

Hue has formed a steering committee to coordinate land surveys, compensation plans, and relocation arrangements. The resettlement and cemetery projects are planned in the northern, central, and southern areas of Hue, as well as in the Chan May–Lang Co economic zone.

The section of the railway running through Hue spans around 95 kilometers and will affect more than 8,100 households, including nearly 900 that require relocation. The city aims to complete land clearance and hand over the site by the end of 2026.

According to the current route plan, the line will run between the Phong Dien Industrial Park and its expansion zone, cross the Huong River, pass through central Hue, and head southeast. Hue Station will be located in My Thuong Ward. The route will then cross Cau Hai Lagoon, pass National Highway 49B, enter Chan May–Lang Co, and cross National Highway 1A and the existing railway before traversing Hai Van Pass into Danang.

The National Assembly approved the investment plan for the 1,541-kilometer Hanoi–HCMC high-speed railway in November 2024. The line will primarily serve passenger transport but can be adapted for defense, security, and freight needs. The entire project is expected to require 10,800 hectares of land and involve the relocation of over 120,000 people nationwide.
