HCMC – The HCMC Union of Friendship Organizations (HUFO) announced today, September 18, that it had raised VND500 million (almost US$22,000) in a fundraising campaign to support victims of typhoon Yagi and ensuing flooding in northern Vietnam.
The campaign aims to provide immediate assistance to the communities affected by the super storm, which triggered heavy rainfall, widespread flooding, and deadly landslides across 26 northern provinces and cities.
HUFO said HUFO member friendship associations, including the Vietnam-Netherlands Friendship Association in HCMC, organizations, businesses, individuals and HUFO staff had contributed cash and goods to the campaign.
In particular, members of the Vietnam-Netherlands Friendship Association in HCMC donated a combined VND47 million to the HUFO fundraising campaign.
HUFO President Do Viet Ha said at the campaign launching ceremony at the HUFO office in District 1 this morning that HUFO was grateful for the support and generosity of the donors.
Also at the ceremony, he handed over a symbolic check of half a billion Vietnam dong to the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee in HCMC for transparent and efficient distributions to those affected by the typhoon and flooding.
