HCMC – Hungarian President Sulyok Tamas will pay an official visit to Vietnam from May 27 to 29 at the invitation of State President Luong Cuong, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

This is the second head-of-state delegation to visit Vietnam in less than a week, after French President Emmanuel Macron’s visit. Both countries are members of the European Union (EU).

For Hungary, this marks President Sulyok Tamas’ first visit to Vietnam since taking office. His trip to Hanoi underscores Hungary’s interest in advancing the Vietnam-Hungary Comprehensive Partnership.

The visit is particularly significant as it coincides with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries (1950–2025).

Hungary was one of the first countries in the world to establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam.

The establishment of the comprehensive partnership in 2018 between Vietnam and Hungary marked a new phase in bilateral ties, with two-way trade steadily increasing from US$645.4 million in 2018 to over US$1.2 billion in 2022.

Two-way trade fell to US$848.2 million in 2023 but quickly regained momentum, reaching US$932 million in 2024.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two sides are expected to hold the 10th session of the Joint Committee on Economic Cooperation in Hanoi in July 2025, after a six-year hiatus.
