HCMC – Indian conglomerate Adani, in collaboration with Vietjet, is conducting a prefeasibility study for developing Chu Lai Airport in the central province of Quang Nam.

Le Van Dung, chairman of the Quang Nam People’s Committee, shared this information during a recent meeting to discuss the province’s socio-economic performance in January-September 2024.

According to Dung, several businesses have previously expressed interest in investing in Chu Lai Airport. However, the project has faced challenges, delaying any concrete investment. The current collaboration between Adani and Vietjet to study the project’s potential follows Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s visit to India in July.

“The investor will move forward with the next steps if the project is deemed feasible and gains approval from the Government,” Dung said.

Chu Lai Airport is one of Vietnam’s largest airports by area, with over 2,000 hectares of cleared land, offering significant potential for development into an international airport and the country’s largest transshipment hub.

According to the 2021–2030 development plan, Chu Lai Airport is expected to become an international airport with a capacity of 10 million passengers per year.
