HCMC – Indonesia’s Consulate General in HCMC tonight (September 19) held a ceremony to mark the 79th National Day of the Republic of Indonesia.
Agustaviano Sofjan, consul general of Indonesia in HCMC, opened the event by expressing condolences to Vietnam for the recent devastation caused by typhoon Yagi in the northern region. Sofjan reaffirmed Indonesia’s solidarity with Vietnam, underscoring the importance of mutual support in times of crisis.
In his remarks, Sofjan outlined Indonesia’s vision for 2045, with its new capital, Nusantara, as a central symbol of sustainability and progress. The theme of this year’s celebration, “Nusantara Towards the Indonesian 2045 Vision: A Global City for All,” reflects Indonesia’s aspirations to become a leading global player.
Duong Ngoc Hai, vice chairman of the HCMC People’s Committee, said bilateral trade between the two countries had reached nearly US$14 billion in 2023. He said both nations aim to take that figure to US$18 billion by 2028.
The event also showcased Indonesian cultural performances, including traditional dances and songs. Guests were treated to popular Indonesian dishes such as siomay, keripik tempe, dadar gulung, and srikaya palembang.
