InterContinental Phu Quoc Long Beach Resort has been officially recognised as Responsible Hospitality VERIFIED™ by Forbes Travel Guide, becoming one of Vietnam’s few properties to meet this global benchmark for sustainability and operational excellence.
This achievement reflects the resort’s long-term commitment to balancing environmental stewardship, community engagement, and guest experience under IHG Hotels & Resorts’ Journey to Tomorrow programme. The verification, which evaluates Star-Rated hotels across more than 80 countries, confirms adherence to best practices that protect the planet, empower people, and support local communities.
Sustainability in Action
Located within a UNESCO-listed Biosphere Reserve, InterContinental Phu Quoc was designed to exist in harmony with its tropical surroundings. Energy-efficient LED lighting, smart water systems, and a comprehensive waste management framework form the foundation of its sustainability strategy. More than 23,000 kilograms of recyclable materials are processed annually, while single-use plastics have been largely phased out.
The resort uses IHG’s Green Engage system to track and optimise energy and water consumption in real time. Beyond technology, sustainability is treated as a shared culture: colleagues take part in weekly beach clean-ups to help preserve the island’s delicate ecosystems and build a sense of environmental ownership.
General Manager Ghislaine Lê said, “Being recognised as Responsible Hospitality VERIFIED™ by Forbes Travel Guide is a significant milestone for us. Our goal of sending zero waste to the mainland by 2030 keeps us focused on advancing responsible luxury every day.”
Guest-Led Responsibility
Sustainability is also embedded in the guest experience. Through the A Greener Stay programme, travellers can opt to reuse linens and adjust housekeeping schedules, saving water and energy while earning IHG One Rewards points. Events and meetings follow the same philosophy through Meeting for Good, which features locally inspired menus, plant-based options, and sustainable amenities.
At HARNN Heritage Spa, used coffee grounds are repurposed for do-it-yourself Body Scrub workshops, creatively showcasing circular practices. Throughout the resort, guests are encouraged to make conscious choices that align luxury with purpose.
Community Partnerships
The resort’s commitment extends to social impact. During Giving for Good Month in September 2025, employees supported local health and education causes through blood drives, charity runs, and meal donations. InterContinental Phu Quoc also partners with the Blue Dragon Children’s Foundation, providing aid to Vietnamese street children and survivors of trafficking through education and housing programmes.
Another key initiative, Stay for Good, donates VND25,000 (approximately US$1) per occupied room per night to VietHarvest, a social enterprise rescuing surplus food and redistributing it to those in need.
A Model for Responsible Luxury
With the Responsible Hospitality VERIFIED™ recognition, InterContinental Phu Quoc Long Beach Resort reinforces that sustainability and sophistication can coexist. The resort continues to set new standards for responsible luxury — where thoughtful design, operational efficiency, and community contribution converge to protect Phu Quoc’s natural beauty for future generations.
