HCMC – Iranian authorities are implementing procedures about the movement of Vietnamese vessels through the Strait of Hormuz, Pham Thu Hang, spokesperson of Vietnam’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said on April 2.

Speaking at a regular press briefing, she said that the move followed a request from Vietnam to ensure safe passage for its ships and seafarers operating in the area, reported local media.

Since the U.S.-Israel war effort against Iran began in late February, the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has coordinated with the Ministry of Construction and Vietnamese missions in the Middle East to monitor developments, maintain contact with vessels and crews, and prepare support measures if need be. All Vietnamese ships and seafarers in the region remain safe, she added.

The ministry has also worked with relevant parties to ensure security and favorable conditions for Vietnamese vessels transiting the strait, through which around 20% of total global oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG) passes.

It has engaged with the Iranian Embassy in Hanoi and Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, requesting support to allow Vietnamese vessels and seafarers to leave the area and pass through the Strait of Hormuz safely as soon as possible.

Vietnamese authorities are now working with shipping companies and shipowners to complete required procedures and meet technical requirements set by local authorities to enable the vessels to move at the earliest possible time.

Vietnam supports Cuba–U.S. dialogue

Hang said Vietnam is monitoring the situation in Cuba and expects the country to overcome current challenges.

She reaffirmed Vietnam’s solidarity with Cuba and its support for United Nations General Assembly resolutions calling for an end to unilateral embargo measures against the country.

Vietnam welcomes dialogue between Cuba and the United States to address bilateral differences based on respect for independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and international law, she added.
