HCMC – Beginning July 1, iris scans will be required for Vietnamese citizens applying for new ID cards.

Police would also collect additional biometrics, including DNA and voice, if voluntarily agreed by the applicant during the process. The aim is to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of personal information certification, explained a police officer.

This initiative will facilitate authentication, especially for individuals with fingerprint deformities or disabilities, ensuring inclusivity in ID verification.

The accuracy of iris data aligns with global and Vietnamese digital transformation trends, supporting the increasing prevalence of electronic transactions.

The Ministry of Public Security has committed to ensuring the confidentiality of iris data, adhering to international standards and employing the highest level of encryption during scans.
