HCMC – The Italian Consulate General in HCMC celebrated its 10th anniversary on September 21, underscoring the growing strategic partnership between Vietnam and Italy.
The event was attended by officials, diplomats, and business executives from both countries, including the Italian Ambassador to Vietnam, Marco della Seta.
Speaking at the event, Consul General Enrico Padula highlighted the consulate’s achievements in promoting economic cooperation, cultural exchanges, and people-to-people connections between Vietnam and Italy.
Tran Phuoc Anh, director of the HCMC Department of Foreign Affairs, expressed appreciation for the consulate’s contributions to bilateral ties. The opening of the Consulate General of Italy in HCMC in 2014 marked a milestone in the strategic partnership established in 2013 between Vietnam and Italy, he added.
Italy is currently one of HCMC’s important trading and investment partners, with bilateral trade reaching US$600 million in 2023. Italy ranks 26th among 120 countries and territories investing in the city.
The event featured a theatrical performance, entitled “The Legend of Areca and the Lost Manuscript.” The performance showcased the deep-rooted connection between Italy and Vietnam, dating back to the 19th century.
Last year, Vietnam and Italy celebrated the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. The two countries have maintained strong ties on various aspects, including economic, cultural, and scientific cooperation.
