HCMC – Construction of the Long Thanh International Airport in the southern province of Dong Nai is progressing rapidly, with several major components almost complete, according to the project’s management board.
The airport’s two main access roads, Routes T1 and T2, have made significant headway. T1, which is nearly eight kilometers long, is over 90% complete. Key bridge structures have been finished, while asphalt paving and landscaping are underway, reported the Vietnam News Agency.
Lighting systems are expected to be installed by mid-April. The route is slated for technical opening by April 30 this year.
T2 has reached around 65% completion. Construction teams are currently laying the base with crushed stone and concrete, with asphalt paving scheduled to begin in June and completion expected in early September.
A consortium of contractors has mobilized about 1,000 workers to accelerate work on the access roads. The goal is to finish both T1 and T2 by early September 2025, three months ahead of schedule.
Runway, taxiway, and apron construction is also advancing. More than 2,300 workers are working in three shifts. Groundwork and foundational layers have been completed for the runway and taxiways, with surface concrete work nearing completion.
Installation of precision landing aids, including lighting systems and navigational equipment, is in progress. This package is expected to be ready for technical operations by April 30, three months earlier than planned.
The airport’s air traffic control tower has finished its reinforced concrete structure. Contractors are currently installing infrastructure and equipment. Trial operations are scheduled for June 30. Installation of aviation-specific systems will follow, with completion and full commissioning expected by December 2025.
According to the Long Thanh International Airport Project Management Board, nearly 13,000 workers are active at the site. The overall schedule remains on track.
The passenger terminal has completed underground and superstructure concrete work across four floors. Steel framework, glass facades, and terminal equipment are now being installed. Basic construction of the terminal is expected to wrap up by the end of December.
Other key facilities, including the parking structure, aircraft refueling system, and internal road network, are also scheduled for completion by year-end.
