HCMC – The south-central province of Khanh Hoa is planning to welcome back international and domestic tourists who are fully vaccinated against Covid-19 by the end of the year, according to the outcome of a recent meeting on measures to restore economic activities in the province.

Earlier, the provincial government had given the green light to the provincial Department of Tourism’s pilot scheme to receive international tourists with a Covid vaccine passport.

Under the scheme, the province will welcome back tourists by the end of the year in the Bai Dai area, where hotels, resorts and tourist sites are located far away from residential areas and facilities are easy to control and ensure Covid safety for visitors.

Besides this, international visitors to the province have to hold a Covid vaccine passport, while local tourists have to get a Covid vaccination certificate and travel on charter flights.

Tourism within the province will be allowed to resume, provided tourists meet local authorities’ Covid safety requirements such as having a Covid vaccination certificate or a negative Covid test result.

Data from the provincial tourism authority showed that the province received 457,000 tourists in the first half of the year, falling over 38% against last year’s figure and only meeting 9.1% of this year’s target.

Previously, after two months of following the stay-at-home mandate, the province began easing social distancing measures from September 8 depending on the Covid situation in each locality in the province.

As of yesterday, September 12, Khanh Hoa had reported more than 7,200 Covid cases, including nearly 6,250 recoveries.
