Lam Dong detects first Omicron case

HCMC – The Central Highlands province of Lam Dong has reported its first Omicron infection, said director of the provincial Department of Health Nguyen Duc Thuan.

Thuan said today, January 25, that a 38-year-old resident of Lac Lam Commune, Don Duong District flew from Italy to Vietnam on December 30, 2021, through the Cam Ranh International Airport in Khanh Hoa Province, the local media reported.

From December 31, 2021 to January 8, 2022, he was put under quarantine in Khanh Hoa. He tested negative for Covid-19 twice, on December 31, 2021, and January 8, 2022, so he was allowed to return to his home in Lam Dong.

On January 9, he made a health declaration and tested positive for Covid.

His sample was also sent to the HCMC Pasteur Institute for genetic sequencing and the result worked out on January 24 indicated that he was infected with the Omicron variant.

Director of the Lam Dong Department of Health Thuan said the patient was now stable and tested negative for Covid-19 on January 19.
