HCMC – A landslide struck the mountainous city of Dalat today, leaving at least two people missing and injuring four others, the local media reported.
At around 2 a.m., June 29, a section of an embankment on Hoang Hoa Tham Street gave way, causing soil and rocks to stumble onto houses and other structures below and trapping two laborers under the debris of the 20-meter-long and 30-meter-tall formation.
The landslide damaged several buildings, with some tilting to one side. There were also a few smaller landslides in the city center during the morning.
The Hydro-Meteorological Station of the Central Highlands region stated that heavy rain had softened the ground, making it vulnerable to landslides.
Dalat has experienced continuous rain over the past few days, with rainfall reaching a peak of at 60 millimeters per hour.
A search and rescue operation is currently in progress underway, while the injured have been rushed to hospital.
