HCMC – Authorities in Lang Son Province have rolled out a series of coordinated measures to ensure security at border gates while facilitating faster customs clearance for businesses, as cross-border trade surges ahead of the week-long Lunar New Year holiday (Tet).
In the days leading up to Tet, demand for goods imports and exports and cross-border travel has risen sharply at Lang Son’s border crossings. Functional forces have increased manpower and extended working hours to prevent congestion and ensure smooth operations.
At the Huu Nghi International Border Gate, more than 1,000 import-export vehicles are cleared each day. Border guards have organized traffic flows and inspections in a coordinated manner, while maintaining full staffing and round-the-clock operations to promptly address any bottlenecks.
According to leaders of the Huu Nghi border guard unit, the number of people crossing the border during the pre-Tet period has climbed to 6,000–7,000 per day. In response, the unit prepared early plans for the period before, during, and after the holiday, deploying sufficient personnel at key checkpoints and enforcing procedures to ensure border security while facilitating trade and travel.
Similar efforts are underway at the Chi Ma Border Gate. Local border guards have coordinated closely with other agencies to guide vehicles and manage traffic flows, avoiding congestion. Notably, a QR code-based entry and exit management system, has been introduced, helping shorten inspection times.
Hoang Van Toan, deputy head of the Chi Ma border guard unit, said the force has proactively monitored traffic conditions, adjusted vehicle routing plans, and maintained regular information exchanges with Chinese counterparts to resolve issues quickly when they arise.
Businesses carrying out customs procedures during the peak period welcomed the improvements. Many exporters and importers said clearance times have been significantly reduced compared with previous years, leading to lower costs and more reliable delivery schedules.
Looking ahead, businesses expressed confidence that border trade activity in Lang Son will continue to improve, supported by further investment in infrastructure and technology, and continued cooperation from local authorities and border forces.
