HCMC – Military units from Laos and Cambodia are expected to take part in HCMC’s April 30 parade commemorating the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the south and the reunification of the Vietnam.

Tran Thi Dieu Thuy, vice chairwoman of the HCMC People’s Committee, said at a press conference in Hanoi today, April 18, that the upcoming celebration would feature four ceremonial formations, 36 military parade units, and 12 civilian marching groups.

Armed forces from Laos and Cambodia are also expected to participate, she noted.

The parade will involve seven double-decker buses, with one carrying heroes of the armed forces and heroic Vietnamese mothers, and the remaining six transporting war veterans from the nation’s 62 provinces and centrally governed cities.

HCMC will also install 20 LED screens along major streets to allow residents and visitors to watch the event. All advertising and propaganda screens across the city will simultaneously broadcast the ceremony starting at 6:30 a.m.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang said the upcoming April 30 ceremony has attracted strong international interest, with more than 20 foreign delegations confirming their participation.

These include three high-ranking delegations, five ministerial-level groups, and representatives from around 15 political parties across Asia, Africa, and the Americas. Over 100 delegates from peace and anti-war movements are also expected to attend.

A special feature of this year’s celebration, Hang added, will be a marching group of 120 outstanding overseas Vietnamese from 25 countries and territories, including some individuals over the age of 90.

From April 19 to 30, HCMC will host a series of events to celebrate the liberation of the south and the reunification of the country, including the “Colors of the City named after Uncle Ho” festival. A centerpiece of the festivities will be a 3D mapping show on the façade of the City Hall, combining lights, sound, and a live orchestral and choral performance.

HCMC will stage a drone light show featuring 2,000 unmanned aerial devices, combined with a fireworks display to illuminate the sky on the night of April 19.

The city will also host a film exhibition titled Echoes of the 1975 Spring Victory, showcasing 300 valuable archival photos, along with community film screenings on April 27 and 28 at the Nguyen Hue–Ngo Duc Ke stage.

On the evening of April 30, a special art performance titled The Festival of National Reunification will take place at the Independence Palace in District 1 and be broadcast live nationwide.
