HCMC – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has revoked Le Thanh Hai’s status as former chairman of the HCMC People’s Committee and other roles in the past over his violations committed during his term of office,
The decision, issued on August 12, takes effect retroactively from May 21, 2024, reported the Vietnam News Agency.
In May 2024, the Party Central Committee removed Le Thanh Hai, former Politburo member and former HCMC Party secretary, from all his Party positions.
According to the Politburo and the Secretariat of the Party Central Committee, Hai and two other former HCMC chairmen violated Party rules, state laws and leadership principles, and failed to prevent widespread violations in the city’s administration.
The violations led to serious consequences, risks of major state asset losses, and led to several criminal cases.
Hai, who is now 75 years old, served as HCMC chairman and then Party Secretary from 2005 to 2015. In March 2020, he was stripped of his title as former Party secretary for the 2010-2015 term over violations related to the Thu Thiem New Urban Area project.
On the same day, the prime minister dismissed Nguyen Ba Hoan, deputy minister of Home Affairs, following his expulsion from the Communist Party of Vietnam.
