HCMC – Long Thanh International Airport is scheduled to receive its first flights on December 19, following a technical test flight planned for December 15, according to the project schedule.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on December 14 inspected construction at the airport and related expressways and connecting roads, reported the Government news website (baochinhphu.vn). It was his ninth site visit to the project.
Phase 1 of Long Thanh has a total investment of nearly VND110 trillion and is being implemented from 2020 to 2026. The phase includes four component projects.
The Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) said Vietnam Airlines will operate a flight to the airport on December 19. Vietjet Air and Bamboo Airways are also expected to have flights landing the same day.
Component project 1, covering offices for state management agencies, is required to be completed before December 19. Component project 2 is completing the air traffic control tower and installing technical equipment to support flight operations.
Component project 3 includes 15 construction packages. Three have been completed. Runways, aprons and technical systems are being finished, with commercial operations targeted for the first half of 2026.
For component project 4, contractors are focusing on completing most construction work before December 19 to meet the overall schedule.
The prime minister also checked progress on the Bien Hoa–Vung Tau Expressway, a key route connecting to the airport.
One section of the expressway, 19.5 km long and passing through HCMC, has been completed and opened for technical traffic since April 19. Authorities aim to open the main route for technical traffic on December 19 and put it into operation in 2025.
Two airport access roads, with a combined length of 7.8 km, are about 99% complete.
Pham Minh Chinh asked ACV and relevant agencies to mobilize more manpower and equipment to complete the remaining work and ensure security and safety. He also urged Dong Nai Province to resolve outstanding issues on transport projects and complete site clearance to meet the 2025 deadline.
