HCMC – The Prime Minister has directed all agencies concerned to urgently expedite the progress of components of the Long Thanh International Airport’s first phase so that they can be completed by December 31, 2025 as planned.
According to the just-released conclusion of the Prime Minister’s meeting on the progress of the airport project, the Government has urged immediate actions to speed up slow-moving work related to the project.
Regarding component 4, the Minister of Transport has been assigned to direct the adjustment of the plan with clear tasks, ensuring its completion by December 31, 2025.
The delay in the expansion of the often-congested HCMC-Long Thanh Expressway is mainly due to difficulties faced by the Vietnam Expressway Corporation (VEC). The Prime Minister has assigned Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc to directly oversee and resolve the issues by December 10.
He emphasized that all outstanding issues must be resolved, and the entire land clearance related to the airport and the expressway for airport operations must be completed by December this year. By January 1, 2025, work must begin on the second runway.
Earlier, the National Assembly approved a resolution at its 8th sitting, agreeing to extend the investment timeline for the Long Thanh International Airport project to the end of 2026.
However, the Government remains committed to completing the project by the initial deadline of December 2025.
