HCMC – The Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs (MOLISA) has written to the prime minister recommending that the Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday last nine days from late January to early February 2025.
The proposal has already secured support from 13 out of 16 ministries and sectors.
If approved, officials and civil servants would start the 2025 Lunar New Year break from January 25 to February 2, 2025, meaning they will have four days off either side of Lunar New Year’s Day that falls on January 29.
For businesses in the non-State and foreign direct investment (FDI) sectors, three options for the Tet holiday have been suggested: one day off at the end of the Year of the Dragon and four days off at the start of the Year of the Snake; two days off at the end of the Year of the Dragon and three days off at the start of the Year of the Snake; or three days off at the end of the Year of the Dragon and two days off at the beginning of the Year of the Snake.
In addition to the Tet holiday plan, MOLISA has proposed extending the Reunification Day and International Labor Day holiday to five days, from April 30 to May 4, 2025. The National Day holiday on September 2, 2025 is also expected to be extended to four days, running from August 30 to September 2.
