Man-yi heads towards Vietnam’s central coast as it strengthens into super typhoon

HCMC – Typhoon Man-yi has intensified into a super typhoon as it approaches the Philippines and is forecast to enter the East Sea, becoming the 10th storm to impact Vietnam this year.

As of early November 16, the eye of the typhoon was located over the eastern waters of the central Philippines, packing winds at level 16 with gusts exceeding level 17, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.

The storm is moving west-northwest at a speed of 20-25 kilometers per hour and is expected to make landfall on Luzon Island before entering the East Sea and gradually weakening.

By 7 a.m. on November 17, the typhoon is projected to be over the eastern waters of the central Philippines. On November 18, it is forecast to move into the eastern waters of the northern East Sea, with winds decreasing to level 12 and gusts at level 15.

By 7 a.m. on November 19, the storm is expected to be in the northern East Sea, about 460 kilometers northeast of the Paracel Islands. Over the next 72 to 120 hours, Man-yi is forecast to move west-southwest at a slower pace of 10-15 kilometers per hour, continuing to weaken.

By the morning of November 21, the storm is predicted to be over the waters off central Vietnam, though its intensity will have diminished significantly.
