HCMC – ManpowerGroup Vietnam and the American Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam, or AmCham, on June 16 jointly organized a webinar titled “Maintaining an Agile Workforce”, aimed at sharing the best practices that businesses and organizations should employ to maintain an agile workforce during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The pandemic has rapidly evolved into a socioeconomic crisis globally. Under its impact, employers have to ensure the safety of their employees while coping with challenges and maintaining normal and effective operations.

According to the ManpowerGroup’s research paper titled “What Workers Want”, employee well-being is one of the top priorities of organizations during the public health crisis. The pandemic has forced businesses around the world to rethink how they work.

Nguyen Thanh Huong, Country HR Manager of ManpowerGroup Vietnam, shared, “Agile working refers to individual and organizational practices that leverage technology and flexibility to enable employees and their organizations to better collaborate across departments, locations and working environments. This model should become a part of our everyday work culture to achieve an optimal balance between agility, productivity, performance, information security, compliance, client satisfaction, well-being and much more.”

According to the Skills Revolution Reboot research conducted by the ManpowerGroup, three of every four employers will require at least 50% of their workforce to be based at the workplace at all or most of the time, depending on the type of role they are in. However, most are working to build new kinds of flexibility into roles traditionally seen as inflexible.

Meanwhile, the research “What Workers Want” conducted among over 8,000 employees also revealed that workers are united in what they want for the future, such as keeping their jobs, staying healthy, learning and developing skills and not going back to the old way of working. Some 43% of the respondents believe the pandemic would bring an end to the traditional nine-to-five working day.

Commenting on this issue, Tran Thi Thu Tham, Head of Human Resources at Bosch Vietnam, said, “Agile working requires managers and employees alike to develop an even stronger culture of mutual trust and responsibility.”

To keep their current jobs in the pandemic, local workers need to know how to adapt their working model to remain an integral and valuable part of their organization.

Thai Van Linh, CEO and founder of TVL Group, shared her practical experience in applying this model, saying, “Agile working means how to work efficiently, to balance between tight deadlines, attention to detail, achieving target results and balancing work and a personal life.”
