HCMC – HCMC has postponed the completion of remaining construction works on the Ben Thanh–Suoi Tien metro line to the fourth quarter of 2026 without increasing the project’s total investment cost.
The HCMC People’s Committee has approved an adjustment to the investment plan for Metro Line 1, moving the construction completion deadline from Q4 2025 to Q4 2026, reported the Vietnam News Agency.
The city authority said the schedule change is aimed at fixing outstanding technical defects and fully settling contractors’ complaints. The adjustment does not alter the approved total investment.
Under the revised plan, the overall project implementation period remains 2024–2028. The notification and warranty period for construction defects has been extended through the end of 2026, while operational support and maintenance will continue until 2028.
The People’s Committee instructed the Management Authority for Urban Railways of HCMC to comply with regulations, ensure construction quality and progress, and strictly control costs to avoid overruns linked to the schedule extension.
The project is currently in the warranty phase, covering technical rectification, operational and maintenance support, continued construction of the operations building, and the settlement of contractors’ claims. Authorities cited difficulties related to manpower, equipment, technical issues and complex complaints as reasons for the extended timeline.
The project owner confirmed that the extension will not generate additional costs or affect the total investment.
Metro Line 1 is 19.7 kilometers long, with 14 stations and the Long Binh depot, and has total investment capital of more than VND43 trillion. The line has been in commercial operation since December 22, 2024, and has carried more than 20 million passengers after more than a year of service, exceeding initial plans.
