HCMC – The Ministry of Information and Communications has requested an inspection of mobile phone subscriber data management at telecom firms from April 5 to June 5.
This is part of the ministry’s effort to enhance management and cope with the recent spike in unexpected phone calls and text messages, especially from scammers.
The trading of unverified phone numbers has been rampant throughout the country. Even phone numbers with full personal information are sold or rented out but not used by their rightful owners.
Many businesses and individuals register to own thousands of phone numbers without clear purposes of use, leading to scams soaring.
The Ministry of Information and Communications has recommended urgent nationwide checks on telecom carriers, service providers and individuals with suspicious phone number registrations.
It has also requested telecom carriers to provide data on suspicious phone number registrations, particularly for businesses with over 50 phone subscriptions and individuals with more than 20.
Inspections will be conducted on telecom providers nationwide to ensure compliance with standardized contract templates, transaction conditions and regulations.
