Mondelez Kinh Do continues to drive change in sustainable sourcing

Must read

Mondelez Kinh Do is at the forefront of sustainable sourcing, demonstrating a long-term commitment to sustainable development through innovative practices. One of the company’s most notable initiatives is its pioneering use of cage-free eggs, reinforcing its pledge to promote ethical practices, environmental stewardship, and consumer well-being.

Pioneering Sustainable Products

As consumer demand for sustainable products continues to rise, Mondelez Kinh Do is meeting this demand head-on. A 2023 survey by Rakuten Insight found that up to 84% of consumers in Vietnam are willing to pay more for sustainable products. This trend is echoed globally, as reflected in Mondelez’s 5th Annual State of Snacking report, which highlights that over two-thirds of global consumers often choose brands that align with their values. In the Asia Pacific region, 65% of consumers expressed a willingness to pay a premium for snacks that contain ethically sourced ingredients.

The Healthy Farm Consumer Study revealed that 75% of respondents are concerned about the treatment of laying hens, with the environmental impact of egg production systems being one of the top three factors influencing consumer decisions (66%).

In response to this growing demand, Mondelez Kinh Do introduced Solite Nature Fresh in 2022, a product line featuring 100% cage-free eggs. This made Solite the pioneering brand utilizing cage-free eggs in Vietnam. The enthusiastic consumer response to Solite Nature Fresh paved the way for the expansion of cage-free eggs into another beloved product line, Solite Nature Fresh with Cheese.

By incorporating cage-free eggs into its products, Mondelez Kinh Do not only meets the increasing consumer demand for ethically and sustainably sourced ingredients but also solidifies its position as a leading food company in Vietnam. The company is actively increasing the percentage of cage-free eggs in its offerings, with a goal of sourcing 100% of its eggs from cage-free farms by 2030, reflecting its global commitment to sustainable sourcing.

Mondelez Kinh Do is pioneering sustainable products to meet the increasing consumer demand

“Mondelez Kinh Do’s focus on sustainable development, particularly its commitment to using cage-free eggs, has far-reaching effects on the environment and society, offering consumers with trustworthy products that align with our values. Through strategic investments, strong supplier partnerships, and innovative initiatives, Mondelez Kinh Do is at the forefront of leading the way towards a more sustainable future,” said Anil Viswanathan, Managing Director of Mondelez Kinh Do Vietnam.

Building Strong Supplier Partnerships

Mondelez Kinh Do recognizes that fostering long-term relationships with its suppliers and egg producers is crucial for achieving sustainable sourcing. The company is committed to transparent and mutually beneficial partnerships that support sustainable development. To ensure a steady supply of cage-free eggs, Mondelez Kinh Do collaborates closely with its suppliers, driving the transition towards sustainable sourcing practices.

Mondelez Kinh Do sources cage-free eggs from major suppliers such as Dabaco, Ba Huan, Vinh Thanh Dat, Emivest…, who collectively provide significant volumes. Thanks to Mondelez Kinh Do’s continuous engagement and support, most of these suppliers have transitioned from conventional cage eggs to cage-free eggs. This underscores the company’s leadership in promoting sustainable practices and enables Vietnam’s livestock production to align with global trends.

Mondelez Kinh Do is building strong partnerships with suppliers and egg producers for achieving sustainable sourcing

An example of Mondelez Kinh Do ‘s innovative approach to building a circular economy model in sourcing is its partnership with Green Connect, a social enterprise focused on turning waste into feed for cage-free egg chickens. In 2022, Mondelez Kinh Do has provided seed funding of US$30,000 and food wastes to Green Connect, enabling the enterprise to scale up its operations by transforming food waste and organic trash into feed. Green Connect has successfully increased its food waste collection from Mondelez Kinh Do plants, achieving 20 tonnes of food waste per month since 2023.

Notably, with Mondelez Kinh Do ‘s support, Green Connect has recently achieved certification from HFAC, which highlights their adherence to the highest standards of animal welfare. This certification not only boosts Green Connect’s credibility but also establishes it as a supplier of cage-free eggs to Mondelez Kinh Do. This collaboration exemplifies a circular economy model, where food waste is repurposed into valuable resources, contributing to a more sustainable and resilient food system.

Through strong supplier partnerships and pioneering initiatives, Mondelez Kinh Do continues to innovate with the goal of creating a more sustainable food industry in Vietnam and beyond.
