More arrests made in connection with Ben Van Don property project

HCMC – Police have arrested a deputy head of the Department of Planning and Development of Land Resources under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment on alleged charges of accepting bribes in a case related to a property development project at 39-39B Ben Van Don, District 4, HCMC.

This morning, May 29, the Investigation Police Department for Corruption, Smuggling, and Economic Crimes (C03) under the Ministry of Public Security initiated criminal proceedings and issued an order for detention of Doan Ngoc Phuong, deputy director of the Department of Planning and Development of Land Resources and Chairman of the Property Valuation Council under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, on alleged charges of accepting bribes.

Police also arrested Cao Dai Nghia, deputy head of the Land Resource Planning and Development Department, who is currently under investigation in the Phuc Son Corporation case, and Khuong Thanh Tung, general director of Thang Long Control and Valuation Joint Stock Company. Both are accused of abusing their positions and powers while performing their official duties.

The arrests are part of an expanded investigation into violations of regulations on the management and use of state assets leading to losses and wastefulness. This investigation involves the Vietnam Rubber Group, Dong Nai Rubber Company, Ba Ria Rubber Company, and units relating to the project located at 39-39B Ben Van Don in District 4, HCMC, said the Ministry of Public Security.

Previously, police had initiated legal proceedings against nine suspects for violating regulations on the management and use of state property leading to losses and wastefulness, as stipulated in Article 219 (3) of the Penal Code.
