Khanh Hoa, Hung Yen, Binh Dinh, Quang Ngai, Thanh Hoa, and Binh Phuoc reported between 460 and 580 cases each, while the remaining localities had fewer than 400 cases each.

Up to now, the country has reported 108 Omicron cases, with 68 in HCMC, 27 in Quang Nam, and three in Danang.

The country in the day saw over 5,700 new recoveries and 152 more Covid deaths, bringing the country’s total recoveries and fatalities to over 1.79 million and over 36,200 cases, respectively.

In related news, the northern mountainous province of Lao Cai reported its first Covid death yesterday. The deceased was a local pregnant woman, aged 36 and residing in Cau May Ward of Sa Pa Town, said the provincial anti-Covid authority.

On January 5 this year, she was taken to a local Covid treatment facility in Sa Pa when she was at 35 weeks pregnant. On the following day, she was transferred to the Lao Cai Province Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital after developing the symptoms of fever, coughing, loss of smell and taste, and chest pain.

As her health condition worsened on January 13, the doctors decided to perform a C-section. After the operation, she was given ICU treatment. On January 19, her condition suddenly worsened and she was pronounced dead at 9:55 a.m. in the day.

Her baby’s health condition is stable. The baby has also tested negative for Covid twice.

In another development, a ninth grader in Ha Hoa District of Phu Tho Province died on January 18 after getting vaccinated against Covid-19, a local health official told VnExpress this afternoon. The provincial health authority has yet to release the official cause of her death.

The girl got her first shot of the Pfizer vaccine on December 3 last year. After that, she reportedly developed the symptoms of dizziness and shortness of breath. After being hospitalized for emergency treatment, she recovered and returned home.

On January 17, she received the second dose. Her mother declared the girl’s post-vaccination reactions to medical workers and was advised to get her daughter vaccinated. After vaccination, she experienced chest pain, nausea, dizziness, shortness of breath, and convulsions. She was pronounced dead on the morning of January 18.
