HCMC – As many as 248 employees at the Long Viet Veneer Technology Company in Tan Dong Hiep Ward in Binh Duong Province’s Di An City have been quarantined and treated after testing positive for Covid-19.

The firm has some 800 employees, but from July 10, only 300 workers have been mobilized to work under the live-in production model, wherein workers work, sleep and have meals at the factory, said a representative of the firm.

After the firm found one worker infected with Covid-19 on July 20, all of its employees underwent Covid-19 tests a day later, the local media reported.

The test results showed that 248 employees were infected with the virus, or more than 80% of those mobilized for work.

On July 25, the firm wrote to the local authority proposing taking the positive cases to treatment facilities.

The Di An City government will propose punishing the firm as it informed the authorities about the Covid-19 infections too late, according to the government.

As of this morning, July 27, Binh Duong Province had over 8,800 domestic Covid-19 cases in the ongoing fourth wave of Covid-19, which began in late April, with over 2,000 infections detected at 100 firms.

To fulfill the dual task of fighting the pandemic and ensuring socio-economic growth, thousands of enterprises in the province have registered to carry out the live-in production model.
