HCMC – The Health Ministry confirmed 44 fresh Covid-19 cases this morning, June 8, including one imported case in Quang Nam and 43 locally-infected cases in Bac Giang, HCMC, and Bac Ninh.
Among the 43 domestic infections, Bac Giang Province, which is now Vietnam’s biggest coronavirus hotspot in the latest wave, reported 22 cases. HCMC recorded 15 cases and Bac Ninh had six.
Up to now, the disease has spread to 39 provinces and cities nationwide with 5,876 infections reported in the latest wave which started on April 27.
Further, 15 localities including Yen Bai, Quang Ngai, Dong Nai, Nghe An, Quang Ninh, Quang Nam have reported no new cases for 14 days.
In related news, two districts of Bac Giang, namely Luc Nam and Yen The, yesterday removed the 21-day lockdown and switched to practicing social distancing in line with the Government’s Directive 15, as the Covid-19 situation in these areas showed signs of a let-up, reported Tuoi Tre Online.
The lockdown removal will also create favorable conditions for smoothier traffic flow as well as harvesting and consuming litchis in Luc Nam District.
Speaking at a ceremony to remove the lockdown on Luc Nam, Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Truong Son stressed that the local authorities must continue to stay highly alert to possible Covid-19 outbreaks and encourage local residents to practice Covid-19 preventive measures.
Also, the authorities need to quickly take measures to assist the locals with the consumption of agro products, especially litchis, aimed at removing obstacles facing the locals during the lockdown period, Son added.
