MPS urged to coordinate with Thailand over death of four Vietnamese

HCMC – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has told the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) to coordinate with Thai authorities over the death of four Vietnamese in Bangkok.

He also asked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to collaborate closely with the Thai side to investigate the incident thoroughly and safeguard the legitimate rights of Vietnamese citizens. The ministry should promptly provide accurate and impartial information about the incident to the media and the public.

The Vietnamese Embassy in Thailand is tasked with closely monitoring developments and taking measures to support the families of the victims.

On July 16, Thai police discovered four Vietnamese nationals and two Vietnamese-Americans were dead at the Grand Hyatt Erawan Hotel in Bangkok.

Thai authorities determined that the victims were poisoned by cyanide as they found this extremely powerful poison in tea cups and the bodies of the deceased.

Sherine Chong, a Vietnamese-American woman who was among the six dead people, is a suspect in the murder of the four Vietnamese nationals and the other Vietnamese-American known as Dang Van Hung.

The suspect killed herself after she poisoned the five people by cyanide over possible debt issues, Vietnamese media said, citing Thai authorities.
