HCMC – Vietnam Maritime Commercial Joint Stock Bank (HOSE: MSB) plans to pay a 30% stock dividend, with August 29 chosen as the record date.
The bank will issue 600 million shares, with shareholders receiving 30 new shares for every 100 shares held. After the share issue is done, the lender’s outstanding shares would rise to 2.6 billion and its charter capital would edge up to VND26 trillion.
The share issue is funded by the bank’s retained earnings as shown in its audited financial statements as of December 31. The State Bank of Vietnam and the State Securities Commission have approved the bank’s capital increase.
MSB said the capital boost would strengthen its financial position, enhance competitiveness, and support business growth and risk management. The bank also aims to accelerate digitalization and green banking initiatives.
MSB posted a 10.69% increase in total assets in the second quarter of 2024, reaching VND295.5 trillion. Its consolidated net income in the first half was VND7.03 trillion, up by 10% year-on-year, while its pre-tax profit increased 4% over the same period last year, at VND3.69 trillion.
Closing the trading session today, August 13, MSB edged down by 1.03% to VND14,450 per share, with over 2.7 million shares traded.
With 162 winners and 234 losers, the benchmark VN-Index moved sideways with a 0.01% increase, up by 0.14 point to close at 1,230.42 points today, driven by VCB share gains.
Trading volume on the Hochiminh Stock Exchange reached over 539 million shares worth VND13.08 trillion, down by 2% in volume and 6% in value from the previous session. Block deals accounted for 50.7 million shares worth VND1.4 trillion.
The VN30 basket, which groups the 30 largest-cap stocks, saw nine gainers and 16 decliners. The VN30-Index inched down by 2.72 points, or 0.21%, to 1,268.72 points.
VCB advanced by 1.94% to VND89,500 per share, contributing nearly 2.5 points to the index. Other major stocks, including VNM, HDB and VJC, picked up by 1.1% to 1.7%, while MWG, VIC, VRE and CTG increased slightly.
Meanwhile, SSB fell by 2.1% to VND21,300 per share, topping the list of decliners. HPG dropped by 1.7% to VND25,400, and BVH, TCB, VIB, GAS, and POW each lost between 1.2% and 1.5%. HPG was the most actively traded stock, with over 26.2 million shares changing hands.
On the Hanoi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index lost 0.59 point, or 0.25%, to 230.18 points, with 72 gainers and 88 decliners. Trading volume totaled over 42.3 million shares valued at VND829.4 billion.
