HCMC – The Nam Ly Bridge project in Thu Duc City is expected to be opened to traffic in mid-September, according to the Transportation Works Construction Investment Project Management Authority of HCMC.
The project, which is now over 90% complete, has seen its investment costs reduced by nearly VND200 billion.
Located on Do Xuan Hop Street in Thu Duc City, the Nam Ly Bridge is 750 meters long and 20 meters wide, while the road, including sidewalks and service lanes, ranges from 30 to 37.5 meters in width.
Construction began in October 2016 but was put on hold in March 2019 due to land clearance issues. At the time, 40% of the project had been completed. Work resumed in April 2023 after these issues were resolved.
The project’s initial investment was over VND919 billion, with construction costs estimated at VND423 billion. After updates, the total investment has been reduced to nearly VND732 billion. The cost reduction is attributed to lower-than-expected costs for land clearance.
Once the bridge is operational, Do Xuan Hop Street will be temporarily closed to allow for the completion of the remaining service roads. The entire project is scheduled for completion by December 2024.
The Nam Ly Bridge project aims to accommodate increased traffic due to rapid urbanization in Thu Duc City. It will also facilitate waterway transportation through the Rach Chiec Canal, connecting the Saigon and Dong Nai rivers.
The project is expected to ease congestion on Do Xuan Hop Street and improve connectivity in the east of HCMC.
