HCMC – The 15th National Assembly has elected its new secretary general and two committee chairs at its ongoing 10th sitting in Hanoi City.
On the morning of October 25, National Assembly deputies voted to approve a resolution electing Nguyen Huu Dong as member of the National Assembly Standing Committee, with 442 out of 442 deputies casting affirmative votes.
Subsequently, the legislature passed resolutions to elect Nguyen Thanh Hai as chairwoman of the Committee on Science, Technology and Environment; Nguyen Huu Dong as chairman of the Committee on Deputies’ Affairs; and Le Quang Manh as secretary general of the National Assembly and chairman of the Office of the National Assembly. All 434 deputies present at the sitting voted in favor.
Le Quang Manh, 51, from Hanoi, has planning and investment backgrounds. He served as deputy minister of Planning and Investment, then as chairman and later Party secretary of Can Tho City. In May 2023, he became chairman of the National Assembly’s Finance and Budget Committee and has since served as acting secretary general and head of the Office of the National Assembly.
Nguyen Thanh Hai, 55, from Hanoi, holds a PhD in Physics and is an Associate Professor. A member of the 12th and 13th Party Central Committees, she has served as chairwoman of the Committee on Culture, Education, Youth and Children, and since 2021 as secretary of the Thai Nguyen Party Committee. In June 2024, she became head of the Committee on Deputies’ Affairs.
Nguyen Huu Dong, 53, from Phu Tho, is a member of the 13th Party Central Committee and a deputy of the 15th National Assembly. He previously led the Son La Party Committee and was deputy head of the Party Central Committee’s Internal Affairs Commission before being appointed standing vice chairman of the Committee on Deputies’ Affairs.
