HCMC – HCMC police have pressed charges against 961 individuals allegedly involved in the case of four Vietnam Airlines flight attendants carrying nearly 11.5 kg of illicit drugs from France to Vietnam in March 2023.
After 15 months of investigation, the HCMC Police Department initiated legal proceedings in 318 cases involving 961 individuals who are accused of producing, trading, transporting and storing illicit drugs; organizing illegal drug use; failing to report criminal activities; possessing counterfeit money; gambling; and robbery.
Additionally, administrative sanctions were imposed on over 80 individuals for storing and using illicit drugs.
In relation to the case, local police, in coordination with relevant agencies, seized 319 kilograms of various drugs, 12 guns, 67 bullets of various types, three grenades, and numerous related exhibits. The drug transactions related to the case amounted to nearly VND28,000 billion.
On March 16, 2023, customs officers at Tan Son Nhat International Airport discovered four female flight attendants bringing around 11.5 kilograms of drugs hidden in toothpaste tubes from Paris to HCMC.
Investigations revealed that many individuals hired Vietnamese people studying and living in France to transport illicit drugs to Vietnam. The drugs were then delivered to a person living in Dong Nai through domestic express delivery services. From there, the drugs were distributed to different parts of the country, including HCMC and Binh Duong.
