HCMC – The newly-expanded HCMC is expected to need 85,000-90,000 workers in the third quarter, mainly in sales, marketing, garment, footwear, wood processing, engineering, and electronics assembly sectors, according to the Department of Home Affairs.

The city’s labor market saw notable improvements in the first half of 2025, with the number of unemployment benefit claims dropping by 20.65% year-on-year to 96,795 cases.

Recruitment was primarily focused on sectors, such as sales, marketing, textiles, footwear, wood processing, mechanical engineering, and electronics assembly.

Employment service centers in HCMC, including the former Binh Duong and Ba Ria–Vung Tau regions, estimate that businesses will need to recruit around 85,000 to 90,000 workers in the third quarter of this year.

In terms of qualification requirements, unskilled labor continues to account for a large proportion, around 58% of total recruitment demand, mainly in sectors such as textiles, footwear, and basic assembly.

On the supply side, the labor force is projected to increase as workers from newly merged provincial areas enter the market, creating a more abundant workforce. However, during this transition period, temporary imbalances may arise due to labor mobility, shifts in occupational structures, and new skill requirements from businesses.
