New market entrants drop 15.2% in August

HCMC – The number of newly established businesses in Vietnam last month fell by 15.2% month-on-month to 13,400, showed data from the General Statistics Office of Vietnam.

These new companies registered total capital of VND124.6 trillion, down by 6.2% from the previous month. Hiring by these firms decreased by 12.1% to 71,800 employees.

Year-on-year comparisons show declines in new market entrants, capital and staffing, with respective reductions of 12.8%, 16.2%, and 22.6%. The average registered capital per new business in August was VND9.3 billion, up by 24.4% from July but down by 3.9% from the same month last year.

In the first eight months of this year, Vietnam saw around 110,800 new businesses entering the market, with their total capital registered at VND994.7 trillion. This marks a 4.4% increase in the number of new businesses and a 0.7% rise in capital, although the workforce decreased by 1.9% compared to the same period last year.
