HCMC – Party General Secretary To Lam presented the title of Hero of Labor to former Vice President Nguyen Thi Binh at the 80th anniversary ceremony of Vietnam’s diplomatic service on August 25.
According to the State President’s decision, Nguyen Thi Binh who used to serve as member of the Party Central Committee, Vice President, and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Provisional Revolutionary Government of the Republic of South Vietnam – was awarded the title for her remarkable achievements in diplomacy and her contributions to the Party’s and the nation’s revolutionary cause.
This prestigious title represents the Party and State’s recognition of Binh’s contributions to the struggle for national liberation as well as to the nation’s development and defense.
Speaking at the ceremony, Binh recalled the negotiations between Vietnam and the U.S. in Paris, calling them a particularly significant event in the 80-year history of Vietnamese diplomacy.
She emphasized that the signing of the Paris Peace Accords was a historic national victory, leading to the liberation of the south and the reunification of the country.
Binh also expressed her confidence that, with its 80-year tradition and invaluable historical experience and lessons, the diplomatic service will continue to live up to the trust of the Party, the State, and the people.
Nguyen Thi Binh, whose birth name is Nguyen Thi Chau Sa, was born on May 26, 1927, in Quang Nam Province (present-day Danang City).
In 1961, she engaged in diplomatic activities for the National Front for the Liberation of South Vietnam. During the negotiations of the four-party Paris Conference on ending the war and restoring peace in Vietnam, she served as head of the delegation of the National Front for the Liberation of South Vietnam and as Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Provisional Revolutionary Government of the Republic of South Vietnam.
She has been awarded many high honors, including the Ho Chi Minh Medal, the First-Class Military Exploit Medal, the First-Class Medal for the Resistance War Against America, the Great National Unity Medal, and the First-Class Freedom Medal of Laos.
