HCMC – Nguyen Van Duoc, a member of the Party Central Committee and deputy secretary of the HCMC Party Committee, has been elected chairman of the HCMC People’s Committee for the 2021-2026 term.
Duoc won 83 out of 84 votes from the members present at the 21st session of the HCMC People’s Council on February 20, becoming the new chairman of the city government. Phan Van Mai was earlier relieved from the post of city chairman today after he had been elected chairman of the National Assembly’s Economic and Financial Committee two days before.
Duoc was assigned and appointed by the Politburo as deputy secretary of the HCMC Party Committee on the afternoon of February 19. He holds a master’s degree in Geology.
With the election of Duoc, the 2021-2026 term has seen three individuals serving as chairman of the HCMC People’s Committee, namely Nguyen Thanh Phong, Phan Van Mai, and Nguyen Van Duoc.
