HCMC – Delays in key power transmission infrastructure projects in Nhon Trach, Dong Nai Province may lead to a waste of electricity as Nhon Trach 3 power plant prepares for commercial generation in August.

On July 16, the State Steering Committee for important national and key energy projects inspected transmission lines linked to Nhon Trach 3 and Nhon Trach 4 power plants. The Southern Power Projects Management Board (SPMB) reported that the 220kV line from Nhon Trach 3 to Long Thanh 500kV substation, covering four communes, has completed 50 of 87 foundations and erected 30 towers, according to the Vietnam News Agency.

The project is scheduled for connecting to the national grid in the third quarter. However, construction at a key site (position 2), supporting four circuits, faces delays due to local residents blocking pole erection and cable installation.

The National Power Transmission Projects Management Board, responsible for the 220kV Nhon Trach 3 to My Xuan-Cat Lai line, reported completion of site handovers for all 11 foundation positions. The project is nearly finished but awaits completion of the same site to connect with the Nhon Trach 3 plant’s distribution yard. It is planned to be connected to the national grid in July.

The 220kV Long Thanh-Saigon Hi-Tech Park line, due for completion in December, has finished surveying but awaits compensation approval. The 220kV Nhon Trach Industrial Zone substation, with a 250MVA capacity, has acquired 27,260 of 35,627 square meters of land but also awaits compensation approval.

The projects are critical to integrating over 1,600MW from Nhon Trach 3 and 4 into the national grid, supporting economic growth. With Nhon Trach 3 ready after testing, the committee warned that delays could lead to unutilized power capacity.

The National Power Transmission Corporation has been instructed to resolve land disputes with local authorities. The steering committee will work with Dong Nai authorities to finalize compensation in July to meet project deadlines.
