HCMC – Kon Plong District in the Central Highlands province of Kon Tum experienced a series of nine earthquakes from morning to afternoon on September 22, according to the Institute of Geophysics.
These nine consecutive earthquakes had magnitudes ranging from 2.7 to 4.4 and focal depths between eight to 10 kilometers. They occurred from 5 a.m. to 12:47 p.m. The most powerful quake, with a magnitude of 4.4, struck at 7:45 a.m.
Residents in neighboring areas such as Kon Ray District, Kon Tum City (Kon Tum Province), and Chu Pah District (Gia Lai Province) felt the tremors, although there was little risk of damage.
On September 21 and 19, Kon Plong District also experienced a series of six earthquakes.
Earthquakes have been occurring in the Kon Plong District area since February 2021, with the strongest earthquake in recent years taking place on the afternoon of August 23, 2022, with a magnitude of 4.7.
The authorities of Kon Tum Province have installed eight monitoring stations near the Thuong Kon Tum and Dak Đrinh hydroelectric power plants to monitor and provide earthquake alerts.
