- More passenger trains to be added for upcoming public holidays
HCMC – The Government and relevant ministries have no plans to swap working days for the national holidays on the occasion of the Hung Kings’ death anniversary, Reunification Day on April 30 and International Labor Day on May 1.
Responding to media queries about the possibility of allowing the holidays to last nine straight days, the Vietnam News Agency quoted an official as saying there would be no change to the announced schedule.
Vu Trong Binh, director general of the Employment Department under the Ministry of Home Affairs, said the Government had approved the 2026 holiday schedule, which was announced by the ministry in October 2025.
The plan was based on the Labor Code and developed through broad consultations with relevant agencies.
The Hung Kings’ death anniversary, which falls on Sunday, April 26, will be followed by a compensatory day off on Monday, April 27, resulting in a three-day holiday from April 25 to 27.
After the Hung Kings’ holiday, employees will return to work on April 28 and 29 before the next break. For the April 30 and May 1 holiday, workers will have two official days off plus the weekend, resulting in a four-day holiday from Thursday, April 30 to Sunday, May 3.
The schedule applies to civil servants and public sector employees. For the private sector, holiday arrangements follow the Labor Code and agreements between employers and employees.
Some universities have announced adjusted schedules to help lecturers and students plan travel, while certain companies are considering swapping working days to create a nine-day break.
