HCMC – The Vung Ang-Bung, Van Ninh-Cam Lo, and Hoa Lien-Tuy Loan sections of the North-South Expressway were opened to traffic today, August 19, establishing a seamless 750-kilometer expressway link between Hanoi and Danang.
The Vung Ang-Bung Expressway, which broke ground in January 2023 with an investment of over VND12.54 trillion, stretches nearly 56 kilometers from Ky Hoa Commune in Ha Tinh to Bo Trach Commune in Quang Tri, where it connects to the Bung-Van Ninh section.
The expressway section features four traffic lanes, and a design speed of 80-90 km/h. It is invested by Project Management Unit 6 under the Ministry of Construction.
The 65.5-kilometer Van Ninh-Cam Lo Expressway, which costs nearly VND9.92 trillion, runs through Quang Tri Province.
Its starting point is in Van Ninh Commune, linking with the Bung-Van Ninh Expressway at the National Highway 9B interchange, and its endpoint is in Hieu Giang Commune, connecting to the Cam Lo-La Son Expressway.
In the first phase, the expressway has four lanes with a design speed of 60-90 km/h, and it will later be expanded to six lanes with a speed limit of 100 km/h.
The 11.5-kilometer Hoa Lien-Tuy Loan Expressway, with an investment of over VND2.1 trillion, began construction in September 2023 and was also opened to traffic on August 19.
This section serves as the final link connecting the La Son-Hoa Lien Expressway with the Danang-Quang Ngai Expressway. The expressway is designed with four lanes and a speed limit of 60-80 km/h.
The three expressway projects with a total length of 208 kilometers, will connect with existing sections to form a continuous 750-kilometer expressway from Hanoi to Danang.
The Ministry of Construction has set the goal of completing all remaining projects through Gia Lai, Quang Ngai, Can Tho, and Ca Mau by December this year, thereby establishing a fully connected 2,063-kilometer North-South Expressway running from Lang Son to Ca Mau.
