HCMC – After 10 days of restoration work, the North-South railway has been reinstated for operation through the Bai Gio tunnel since 6 p.m. on April 21.
Following the completion of load testing and safety reviews, all trains are now permitted to traverse the Bai Gio tunnel, which had been blocked due to a severe landslide on April 12 in Khanh Hoa Province.
Despite the railway’s reopening, vehicular traffic remains prohibited as safety inspections continue. Authorities anticipate reopening a section of National Highway 1 passing through Ca Pass on April 22.
The Vietnam Railway Administration reported that 30 meters of concrete have been laid, and 22 anchors installed to ensure the stability of the tunnel structure.
The landslide at Bai Gio tunnel disrupted North-South railway traffic, leading to the suspension of train operations between Hao Son station in Phu Yen Province and Dai Lanh station in Khanh Hoa Province.
To mitigate transportation disruptions and assist affected passengers during the repair period from April 12 to 21, the railway sector arranged alternative transportation for nearly 30,000 passengers.
