HCMC – After four days of disruption caused by Storm Kalmaegi, the North–South railway has resumed operations through Dak Lak Province, allowing passenger and freight services to return to normal.

Kalmaegi, the 13th storm that has hit Vietnam this year, triggered heavy rains across central provinces from Quang Ngai to Tuy Hoa, washing away some sections of the railway’s foundation. The most severe damage occurred in the Phuoc Lanh–Van Canh area, where landslides created gaps as deep as nine meters.

In response, Vietnam Railways mobilized nearly 300 workers from three joint-stock railway companies: Phu Khanh, Thuan Hai, and Nghia Binh. Teams worked around the clock in multiple shifts to repair the track and restore safe operations.

By the night of November 10, trains were able to pass through the previously damaged section near Xuan Lanh Commune in Dak Lak at a reduced speed of 5 km/h. Passenger and cargo services on the North–South line have since been fully restored.
